International Guitar Festival: This concert is a survey of Chaz Underriner’s works for guitar, video and electronics. As a guitarist, electroacoustic composer, and video artist, this multimedia setup is a core part of Chaz’s artistic work that has evolved throughout time, similar in a way to solo piano works by pianist-composers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
This program traces the evolution of Chaz’s aesthetic and technical interests over the past decade: The earliest work explores a very simple and static use of video and field recordings, the middle works utilize more color and experimental film/video techniques, and the most recent piece uses live video techniques in tribute to “The Interaction of Color” by Josef Albers. What is consistent between all the works is a sense of dreaminess that creates a space for contemplation for the audience.
