Mr. Cardboard

Clown/Comedy - General Audience - 55 Minutes

Mr. Cardboard is an enchanting, introspective, and twisted clown play. It is the debut hour from Miles Calderon and Levi Meltzer, two performers, theatermakers, and recent graduates from the world renowned French clown school: École Philippe Gaulier. The show is a playful deconstruction of the childhood/coming-of-age fantasy genre that bends between a simple narrative about Huxley meeting his magical imaginary friend, Mr. Cardboard, and a sincere comedy about growing up and friendship, all the while being stupidly funny.

On his 5th Birthday, rotten little boy Huxley (Levi Meltzer) is whisked away to the magical Land of Cardboard by the sprung-to-life Mr. Cardboard (Miles Calderon). However, aging and Huxley’s edge endanger his adventure and the innocence of the Land of Cardboard.

Well, I Ate

Renee Marchol

Atlanta, GA

Storytelling - General Audience - 35 Minutes

An Atlanta woman tells five food memoir stories

Strawberry milk, carrot soup, bacon sandwich, Wonder Bread matzo ball soup and gas station linzer bars

An outcast classmate Aubrey pours strawberry milk into her Thermos cap to share with Renee. A grandma runs out of senior pantry food and eats a bread end so her grandchild can eat a soft middle slice. A friend watches Saturday morning cartoons with Renee, tells her she will hide her Jewishness to become a cheerleader, and makes dumplings out of Wonder Bread. Renee is breadwinner as her first husband goes to school and she brings a gas station recipe for linzer tart to a Los Angeles party.

"Well, I ate," was what Renee's mom said to her when she asked for food when she was a child. Renee had to get a special note from the pediatrician to attend school because she was so malnourished. But these food stories show that Renee belly laughs last. These memoir food stories will nourish an audience.

Liquid Courage

Bobby Wesley
Orlando, FL

Storytelling - General Audience - 60 Minutes

Bobby Wesley is a storyteller, but he doesn’t always trust his brain.

Family legends feel like tall tales. Too many drinks lead to hazy recollections. And memory itself is a fickle thing, ain’t it?

A veteran performer at storytelling festivals and “the Moth” stage in New York, Bobby recollects a misspent youth of southern shenanigans, hipster cocktail nonsense, and a whirlwind reconstruction of the mind.

Liquid Courage spins these yarns into an interwoven storytelling show about family legacies and the gap between what we remember and who we are.
